Quotes:
“When I was in my early teens, I wasn’t very confident. In fact, before getting the part in the film, I’d say I was shy, especially at school. I’d never acted before, but being in front of the camera has really brought me out of myself.”
“I’m the shy type, really. At school I could go without talking to anyone for, I don’t know, days and days. I was so shy it was unbelievable and it never occurred to me that I could get into this business. I always assumed it was only for really confident people.”
“I always had a problem with shyness at school and would never stick my hand up in class if I was stuck at something. I didn’t want to be the centre of attention, all those eyes looking at me would have made me really nervous.”
“I don’t think it was jealousy. Because the character is based a lot on image, there are so many Harry Potter fans in the world with so many different perceptions of Cho, I guess you can’t satisfy everyone. I haven’t seen any of that stuff so haven’t experienced that negativity. It really hasn’t affected me at all. If it was another girl, I would feel sorry for her but it’s me and it hasn’t affected me at all.”
“When I met Mike Newell he asked me what drama school I went to, and I told him that I’d never acted before. He said ‘flipping monkeys’, which I clearly remember. That’s when I realized I had a chance of getting it.”
“I think you just have to be able to live two different lifestyles. On one hand you have to concentrate on your studies yet when you’re acting you have to be a completely different person. You really have to focus. I think the most important thing is to not let it get to your head. And don’t get easily influenced by anything.”
“I wouldn’t want to be in a film because I’m Asian. I want to get respect as an actress.”
[on hate sites regarding her and her role in Harry Potter] “This kind of stuff is inevitable because Dan has so many female fans - millions of them - so I’m nor surprised some of them don’t like me. But I don’t think it’s all based on jealousy. I’m not going to satisfy everyone’s preconceptions of Cho.”
[on playing Cho] “If this turns out to be my only film then I think it would be pretty cool to be known as Harry Potter’s first crush.”
“During the scene of the Yule Ball, the ground was very slippery and I was wearing high heels and I slipped but good thing I grabbed onto Robert so I didn’t fall and good thing the cameras weren’t where we were yet. Oh, that was so embarrassing!”
